However a number of positives could have been taken from last nights game. As stated in the pre match report, Cake only took to the field with the bare 5. They refused to make any excuses but 2 Fat had 8 players which allowed them to make numerous and continuous subs.
Even with the numerical disadvantage, Cake powered through and for 3/4 of the game, they were ahead. A tactical misjudgment at half time which saw 'The Cat' Nick Henderson swap positions in goal with Cater, proved to be a bad choice and Cake allowed the opponents back into the game.
At 7-7 the game was evenly balanced but the fatigue and fitness began to show in the boys and they ultimately ended up the losing side.
Newly appointed manager Jono 'Arsene Wenger' Marcus tried his hardest to G the guys up but even he could not fault his players as they show true heart and determination to almost snatch a victory which really should not have been a possibility.
Danny B and Will P got the goals for Cake with DB notching 4 and Willy P netting a hat-trick but neither of these guys picked up the man of the match award - That went to 'No Mercy' James Duffy who was here there and everywhere and really surprised the fans who knew he had not played in a 5 a side before.
JD showed silky and sexy skills and almost bagged a couple goals of his own, but the players and fans of cake could not fault his effort and could really see the passion in his eyes (He took his glasses off to play)
Cakers can walk into the next game with their heads held high and hopefully more players.
On a positive note, the lovely Zoe Stainsby who promised to show her support to the guys, showed up at the end of the game. Eyes did turn but it was too little too late. Zoe said 'Im disappointed for the lads and i was bloody cold, but Cake is in my heart and hopefully the next time i get to see Cake is not only on my birthday!"
Hopefully Zoe and the other Cake WAG's will show the same support for next week!
